Stanford Track And Field Earns National Title In One Event, Sets School Record In Another

Stanford Track and Field began day one of the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The day proved successful for both the men and women as the Cardinal won a National Title in the men's Distance Medley Relay and Arianna Lambie set a school record in the 5000 meter run. On the men's side, it was Russell Brown and Garrett Heath winning their respective heats in the mile prelims to qualify for the finals tomorrow at 6:25pm. Brown took first in a time of 4:00.19, while Heath finished first in his heat with a time of 4:03.13. The men's distance medley relay team of Heath, Zach Chandy, Michael Garcia and Brown captured Stanford's first National Title at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships as they posted a time of 9:33.64 in a highly contested race. Also competing for the Cardinal were Josh Hustedt who sits in fourth place after the first day of heptathlon events as he earned 3,138 points, more than 100 points ahead of his best score. Graeme Hoste who placed tenth in the pole vault with a height of 5.30 meters. For the women Arianna Lambie led the way as the runner-up in the 5000-meter run, setting a new Cardinal record with a time of 15:37.97, besting her previous indoor top time by about 23 seconds. Sarah Matthew also competed for Stanford as she earned a 15 place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.65 meters.
Action will continue tomorrow, March 10 with the men's 60-meter hurdles at 11:00am.
