Stanford, Calif. - Stanford has announced its 2008 season-opener versus Oregon State will now be played on Thursday, August 28. The contest is currently scheduled to be televised live by ESPN2 at 6 pm, PT.

"We are thrilled to open the season with a nationally televised Thursday night ESPN game," said Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh. "The national telecast will certainly give our fans and alumni across the country a chance to watch us play. Additionally, the opportunity to be one of the first college football teams to kick off the 2008 season is certainly a plus for our program. We know there will be challenges hosting a weeknight home game, but we hope our fans and our community will embrace the opportunity and help set the tone for a great year of college football."

The remainder of Stanford's 2008 home football schedule includes games versus San Jose State (September 20), Arizona (October 11), Washington State (November 1) and USC (November 15).

Stanford is scheduled to play on the road in 2008 at Arizona State (September 6), TCU (September 13), Washington (September 27), Notre Dame (October 4), UCLA (October 18), Oregon (November 8) and California (November 22).

Stanford is coming off a promising 2007 campaign in Harbaugh's first season as the team's head coach that included victories over both USC and California.
