Former Stanford Standout Scott Bolkan To Play With USL's Portland Timbers

Scott Bolkan, a former defensive standout for the Stanford men's soccer team, will begin his pro career with the USL's First Division Portland Timbers. Bolkan will join a crew of five other defenders that look to improve on the Timbers' second place finish in last year's regular season.

During spring break, most college students flock to the warm, sandy beaches of Mexico or Florida for the weather and the nightlife. Others simply go home for some rest and relaxation, but few will get the once-in-a-lifetime experience that the Stanford men's soccer team will have as they travel to Spain for an eleven day excursion from March 21 to March 31.

Head men's soccer coach Bret Simon, and the Stanford men's soccer program has announced the hiring of Gregg Olson as assistant coach for the Cardinal. Olson will begin his coaching duties immediately and will fill the spot left by former assistant coach Jon Pascale, who recently accepted a head coaching job with the UC San Diego men's soccer program.

Andrew Kartunen Selected By The Kansas City Wizards in the MLS Supplemental Draft

Redshirt senior Andrew Kartunen was selected as the 11th pick in the fourth round by the Kansas City Wizards in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft. The 6'1-175 pound goalkeeper was the 53rd overall pick. Kartunen is joined by Pat Healy (Towson), Vicente Arze (Mercer), and Tom Gray (Monmouth) as the Wizards' four picks in the draft.
