Stanford Lands Conference-Best 12 Academic All-MPSF Selections

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford men's water polo team proved once again on Tuesday that it is formidable not only in the pool, but in the classroom as well. Twelve Cardinal student-athletes earned Academic All-MPSF honors, the most of any school in the conference. Student-athletes must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year at their institution prior to the season for which the award is beign received, and have participated in at least half of their team's contests during the season. Among Stanford's selections were student-athletes earning Academic All-MPSF honors for the second or even third times. Michael Bury (3.58, Senior), Peter Finlayson (3.68, RS Senior), Ryan Fortune (3.61, Senior), Sandy Hohener (4.08, Senior), and Forrest Schwartz (3.68, RS Senior) all collected their third consecutive Academic All-MPSF honors. Andrew Drake (3.14, RS Junior), Will Hindle-Katel (3.65, Junior), and Chris Jacobson (3.19, Junior) all earned their second honor, while Will Smith (3.33, RS Freshman), Cody Wiesen (3.56, RS Freshman), Sage Wright (3.76, Sophomore), and Steven Wright (3.40, RS Junior) were all honored for the first time. Tuesday's selection also marks a special trifecta for Bury, Hindle-Katel, Hohener, and Sage Wright, as each member of the quartet was not only an Academic All-MPSF selection, but also earned All-America and All-MPSF recognition for their performances in the pool this season. Stanford finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 17-8 and a 5-3 mark in MPSF play.
