Hostage And Schavone Win Pac-10 Women's Diving Honors

Stanford freshman diver Meg Hostage and head diving coach Dr. Rick Schavone were honored when the 2008 Pac-10 year-end honors were announced by the conference on Thursday. Hostage won both the conference's Women's Diver of the Year and Diving Newcomer of the Year awards for the first time in her rookie year. Schavone was named the Pac-10's Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career and second in a row.

Stanford To Host Grand Prix Event Friday-Sunday

Stanford University welcomes some of the nation's best swimmers as the Avery Aquatic Center will act as one of two host sites for the Toyota Grand Prix series this Friday-Sunday, April 4-6. The Grand Prix events are a warm up for the 2008 Olympic Trials, which will take place in Omaha, Nebraska from June 29 to July 6.

    Stanford moved up one spot for the second straight day to finish third at the conclusion of the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of The Ohio State University. The Cardinal finish was its highest at the meet since Stanford was also third in 2002. Arizona led the meet wire-to-wire to win its first NCAA title. Auburn (348) was just able to hold off Stanford (343) by five points to finish second, while Texas A&M (315) and California (291) rounded out the top five.

    A big morning by Stanford has put the Cardinal in position to move up in the final team standings during the sixth and final session of the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday evening. Stanford will wrap up the NCAA's with eight individual swims and one relay team competing as well as three divers during the final seven events.

    Stanford moved up one spot to fourth at the end of the second day of action Friday at the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships taking place on the campus of The Ohio State University. Arizona took a commanding lead in the meet with 361 points, while Auburn (244), Texas A&M (227), Stanford (212) and California (203) are all battling for second place. Julia Smit won her first NCAA title with a victory in the 400 IM, posting a personal-best time of 4:02.41 to come within 0.13 seconds of Summer Sanders' 16-year old NCAA, NCAA Meet and Stanford records.
