Stanford vs. Santa Clara
NCAA Round 1
Santa Clara Quotes

Head Coach Jon Wallace

Opening Statement:
I liked the way we played tonight. I thought we did a good job. Our girls did everything we asked of them going through the scouting report to their effort. I thought they took the floor and did exactly what we wanted them too. I think Stanford had to beat us to win tonight and I feel proud of that. They are a good team. And so are we. Actually, I think were better than I thought. And as a coach, to coach these girls and this team its been fun. It's been a pretty amazing journey this year, and to come in here tonight and play well feels good. I hate losing. No doubt about it, these girls hate losing and they're upset about it. But I give kudos to Stanford, I thought they played really well.

On Stanford's Strategy:
To hit it over our small middles. I don't think anything changed from when they played Cal to when they play us. I think they ran their system. I was really impressed with Alix Klineman getting kills from the back row. I don't think we anticipated that. I thought we handled them when they were hitting on the left, but I thought the pipe really killed us. I don't know if they saw something weak in us, I thought they were doing the same things we saw in film.

Crystal Matich

On her career with Santa Clara:
I can remember coming here when I was a freshman and knowing nothing, and coach creating me into the setter that I am. It's been a blast, we've had ups and downs, I've had ups and downs. I don't know what I'm going to do, maybe come out to practice and watch.

Caroline Walters

On her expectations for the team:
I think the final four team definitely changed the expectations we had for this program, and it makes losing in the first round these last two years that much tougher.
