Summer School Athletic Aid

Stanford awards athletic scholarship aid for summer school for a small number of student-athletes. Summer school is not guaranteed for any student, and scholarships are granted when the necessary funding is available and are awarded by the Director of Athletics upon receipt of satisfactory fulfillment of the application requirements.

Criteria:

  1. The student-athlete was receiving athletic scholarship aid in the academic year immediately preceding the summer session.
  2. The student-athlete is taking classes at Stanford.
  3. The student-athlete falls into one of the following categories: needs units to be eligible, needs a course to graduate at the end of the summer, needs a course to graduate in four years, is learning disabled, needs a mandatory class that cannot be taken during the season, is an engineering/pre-med major behind in units, or has not previously requested summer school aid.

To apply:

The student-athlete must submit a written request that includes a sufficient explanation of their need to attend summer school. He/she must also attach a copy of their transcript and academic plan. Applications should be submitted by April 7th to Duane Voigt in the Athletic Academic Resource Center.

All summer school requests are collected and evaluated by members of the Academic Advising staff in the Athletic Department for academic necessity, and then submitted to the Director of Athletics for final review and approval. If summer school aid is approved, the following conditions apply:

  1. Scholarship aid for summer covers tuition for a minimum of two classes, not including any activity units.
  2. Summer school aid includes tuition and room & board only and covers up to the same percentage as the student’s aid during the previous academic year. Textbooks are not included in summer school aid.
  3. If the student-athlete does not receive a passing grade for a class(es), he/she will be required to reimburse the Athletic Department for the value of the summer school aid.
